Ending Breed Discrimination Presentation – Cathy Rosenthal
A great read!
For tips on how to speak to the media about Pit Bulls and prevent them from getting bad press, check out Cathy Rosenthal’s PowerPoint presentation Ending Breed Discrimination Against Pit Bull Terrier Type Dogs from last year’s No More Homeless Pets Conference. The presentation also recalls how Pit Bulls came to be negatively stereotyped and clarifies the confusion between dangerous dogs and dangerous breeds.
Thank you Kaley Cuoco!
WONDERFUlL video of Kaley Cuoco’s pitbull breed dog enjoying a dip in the jacuzzi. This is part of a wonderful interview that was done by Ellen Degeneres. Kaley is the wonderful owner of 3 rescued pit bulls and I think she is doing a wonderful thing by showing the world this video and her story proving how great these babies are!

October 27, 2012 is a day that will celebrate, educate and inspire change about our bully breed friends. All over the country there will be groups coming together to help elicit positive communication about our bullies and show people the love, loyalty and plain old goofiness that this loveable breed can offer any family.
National Pit Bull Awareness Day offers a full list of all the great events that will be taking place all over the US – all are listed by state. I hope you will take the time and visit one of these fun events to learn more and possibly fall in love with your new best friends.
Best Pit Bull Facts & Myths Visual EVER!
This image represents the truth behind the Pit Bull myths and lies that exist in the world. Those of us who are around pit bulls, work with pit bulls and advocate for them know with all certainty how wonderful these babies are – but convincing the rest of the world, as we all know can be a daunting task.
1800PetMeds has put together this wonderful graphic dispelling the myths and putting out the truth – they also included a list of websites they utilized in finding out this information! Thank you 1800PetMeds for taking the time to create this and showing your support of our bully friends.

Reading A Dog’s Body Language
This is why there are so many dog bites – by dogs of ALL breeds, because we humans can be pretty dumb in reading a dogs mood. Just like humans, dogs give off signs that they want to be left alone. Do you want to be touched and bothered all day long? I am guessing no, well dogs need quiet time too.
This ad does a great job of showing some simple dog language – it would be great if we could all take the time to educate our children on this too!

Sneakers and Smokey
Both of these babies have been at the Woodbridge Animal Shelter in Woodbridge, NJ for almost a year now – and I cannot figure out why. They are good looking, super smart and will make great pets for the right family!
Smokey (a stunning redhead!) is a 2-3 year old pit bull who has certainly grown near and dear to our hearts. He came to us as a surrender from a former shelter volunteer who purchased him as a puppy just because she thought it was cool to have a pit bull. She did not socialize, train, exercise, or expose him to the outside world during his formative puppy stages and as he began to get older, larger, and stronger he became anxious, defensive, and protective. The response to this was to keep him in a crate for the majority of the time and physically abuse him when he was out of the crate and unsure how to respond to unfamiliar people and situations. As you can imagine, his life became one of misery, little human interaction or affection and confusion regarding how he was supposed to behave. Instead of even walking him regularly to allow him to expend some of his energy, they decided to drug him up with pills that would sedate him and prevent him from “behaving poorly.” When he was eventually surrendered to the shelter he was an emotional and mental mess and would not allow anyone to even touch or approach him without cowering to the ground and urinating on himself.
As you can see in the images below…..he is coming out of his shell and is learning to love and trust both people and other dogs……prefers a home with no cats or young children.
Sneakers (the beautiful black and white boy) is yet another stray pit bull that arrived at the shelter fully equipped with his leash and collar on, but no identification tags. The person who found him searched extensively for an owner but was unfortunately unsuccessful and no one has contacted the shelter looking for their beloved pet. So, aside from his good looks, we are learning more and more about Sneakers everyday. He is a sweet, friendly and energetic guy who is super obedient and would make a great pet in an adult only home. We do not recommend he live with a family that has young children simply because we do not know his history and because he is not great at sharing his food sometimes. He will be neutered prior to adoption and is current on all of his vaccinations. Take a look at that pittie smile, even at the shelter his outlook on life is good!
